The childhood memories of writer Martín Kohan are intertwined with the unreleased archive from the Channel 9 newscast between 1973 and 1980. Through this, a key period of Argentine history is reconstructed, exploring the relationship between personal memory and the public discourse of the time.
We listen to an individual, singular, unique memory, located in the literary tradition of Georges Perec’s I Remember, whose original title added “common things.” In personal evocation there are experiences that perhaps resemble those of others from the same generation, or those close to it. A voice that speaks of its own past, set on images that we never saw or that we ran into sometime, distantly and absent-mindedly, on television. The archive footage unfolds and the news material follows, the archive is organized in a narratively forceful, precise way, with an accurate intelligence to juxtapose and resend. And it lucidly reveals -reminds us of- a past world, an echo, a tremor that continues to operate in the present.
